In the early 1960s Dympna was one of only 23 senior girls across Forms 4, 5 and 6. After school she attended Catholic Teachers College in Elsternwick and spent most of her teaching days at St Peter Julian Eymard Primary School. In 2002 Dympna was elected to State Parliament as the Labor Member for Kilsyth where she continued her work to make the community a better and fairer place, which included her involvement with the Law Reform Commission and Jim Fuller House (named after her father), which provides housing to older people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
