Mercy Honour Role Inductee

Moira Burgi (dec.)

Year of Induction 2019

1931

Moira was our most senior Old Collegian until her passing in November 2020. She boarded from 1924-1931 and her family ties to the College go back to Moira's Aunt Lily, who was a boarder when the College first opened in 1896. After leaving the College, Moira lived at home in Wandin for a number of years with her mother and two brothers, Bernard and Eddie. During World War II, she trained as a mothercraft nurse in Broadmeadows and this led to her working with families in places as diverse as Queensland, Gippsland, Castlemaine and the Western District. In the late 1950s, Moira lived and worked in Kew at the Catholic think tank Mena House, which ran conferences and training groups for Catholic academics and activists. During this time she was in close contact with Bob Santamaria and Archbishop Mannix. Moira was kind enough to share her stories with us in a video produced for MLMC in 2012.
