On Tuesday 18 July we hosted a whole school Semester 1 Awards ceremony — a new approach to previous years where individual year levels celebrated among themselves. This allowed our College to celebrate together the achievements of all our students, who achieved eight or more awards at Years 7-8 and six or more awards at Years 9-12. As a community, we congratulated all students who were awarded a Merit or Academic award.

Those acknowledged at the ceremony had awards from more than 50% of their subjects, making them top achievers for the semester. All other award recipients will be presented with their certificates in their Homerooms. Certificates were also distributed electronically to parents via PAM.

Our Year 12 Prefects were visible leaders throughout. They were heavily involved in the presentation of awards, displaying camaraderie and mentorship. The Year 12s continued to helm the awards by presenting the Prayer, Scripture and even a Wizard of Oz musical interlude by College Captain Elena Atanasovski.

Principal Mr Philip Morison provided some inspiring words that spoke to our MLMC spirit of community and striving for excellence. “I am inspired by the many students who work so hard to achieve and I know for many it is not an easy process but one of commitment.” He went on to share the inspirational story of Sarah Johnson who exemplified academic success, goal setting, and the power of supporting one another in achieving our aspirations. This embodies the essence of what it means to ‘ Be Your best. Give Your best.’ at MLMC.

He reiterated that goals were not mere fantasies but were the building blocks of success. Achieving academic success is the byproduct of setting clear goals and taking intentional steps. He also made a point that success is not gained on your own but spurred on with the help of the community that surrounds us and supports us daily.

The ceremony ended with the College community joining in one voice for our national anthem and our College song, led by the College Choir.

It is hoped that all students continue to aspire for academic excellence, but that they also inspire others to achieve their personal best.
