MLMC students and staff were honoured to be a part of the Lilydale RSL’s Remembrance Service on Sunday 11 November, marking the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended WWI. The service was held at the Lilydale Cenotaph which was surrounded by 6100 hand-made knitted or crocheted poppies which were 'planted' in the surrounding gardens. Red poppies were for the fallen, purple poppies were for the horses and white poppies were for the nurses.

Our College Choir (participants are listed below) sang a hymn and the national anthem, our 2019 College Captains, Grace Clinton and Matthew Gamble, gave a speech, and the Vice Captains, Darcy Hamilton and Ethan Preston, laid a wreath on behalf of the College.

Georgia Berrie recited the poem In Flanders Fields and in addition to singing in the choir, Monica Mockiewicz played the role of Dame Nellie Melba, ringing the bell to let everyone know the war was ended, and she walked around the crowd ringing our original Mercy College Bell. All our students represented the College very well and I was proud of them.
